Sleeping in an unfamiliar bed can often lead to a disturbed night; however there are steps that people on holiday or on business trips can take to ensure they do have sweet dreams.
According to the Sleep Council, access to a good quality bed and a comfortable sleeping environment can make a real difference to one's sleep when away from home.
Hotels around the world have realised the importance of providing quality beds, bedding and pillows to ensure their guests' sleep disturbance is kept to a minimum, the organisation revealed.
But people who experience trouble sleeping should recognise that they can also help to alleviate sleep difficulties and snoring problems by looking closely at their pre-sleep activities, Jessica Alexander from the Sleep Council explained.
"If you find it hard [to sleep away from home] there's no quick fix - except to bear in mind that it's important not to burn the candle at both ends," she said.
"Don't be tempted to keep later hours, drink more alcohol and eat richer foods than normal as all those things will add to the disturbed sleep you are already in for."
Recent research published in the Journal Sleep linked the numbers of hours we sleep to our chances of staying slim.
The study found that people who slept for less than six hours per night, or for more than nine, put on more weight than those who slept for seven or eight hours.
