A spa in eastern Turkey has recently received worldwide renown for its bizarre yet effective treatment for psoriasis, reports claim.
Located close to Kangal in the east of the country, the 100-year-old spa guarantees that 21 days of their unusual treatment will improve symptoms of psoriasis 100 per cent.
The treatment programme involves sitting in selenium-enriched waters of 37 degrees Celsius containing Garra rufa fish for eight hours a day, while the small fish feed on the dead skin and flaking patches.
As psoriasis is a recurrent skin condition, the remedy cannot provide a cure but temporarily relieves sufferers of the itchy, sore illness.
One sufferer from Glasgow, Scotland, Samantha Locke, who had the treatment in Turkey, told the Daily Mail: "It felt strange knowing they were eating my skin, but I couldn't feel them touching me. It was weird the way the fish were only nibbling at the bits affected by psoriasis."
Six such centres offering the Garra rufa fish treatment for psoriasis currently exist in Europe.
Research has found that psoriasis is most common in Scandinavia and regions in the north of Europe.
