Homeopathic treatment can be beneficial in helping ease the symptoms of eczema, as an alternative to conventional medicine in children, according to a new report.
A review published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine suggests that, based on a study of one-to-16 year olds with eczema, children treated with homeopathy showed equal or better results than those treated with corticosteroids.
According to the research, over a 12-month period, those treated with homeopathy showed a 91 per cent improvement when assessed by a physician compared to a 75 per cent improvement noted in children treated with conventional drugs.
Experts have found that almond oil is effective in soothing dry irritated skin and is used in homeopathic medicine to treat itching caused by eczema and psoriasis.
However, it is not advised for children known to suffer from a nut allergy and so any treatment should be monitored by a doctor.
Parents considering the use of homeopathic treatment for their child's eczema are advised to first consult their family physician.
