An event is set to take place this weekend that aims to educate and support young people on living with epilepsy.
Taking place on Saturday, October 18th at the Metropole Hotel in Cork, Ireland, the conference will target sufferers between the ages of 16 and 21 and offer the opportunity for questions to be raised over the disorder.
Irish Health reports that the meeting will be the first of its kind to be held in the country and should also prove helpful to parents as their children deal with epilepsy at an already difficult stage in their development.
Niamh Jones, a community resource officer for Brainwave, one of the event organisers, said that teenagers experience a great deal of anxiety during their journey into adulthood and this can be exacerbated with the disease.
"For a young person with epilepsy, a little more thought and care is required when making decisions that concern their health, well-being and ultimately, their quality of life," she said.
Speakers at the event, named Teens and Young Adults with Epilepsy, include Dr Sandya Tirupathi - epilepsy fellow at the Beaumont Hospital - and senior psychologist for HSE South, John Doyle.
