Gift advice for friends and family with FMS or CFS

28 Nov 2008

A new articgenerle has posted a number of suggestions on gift ideas for those suffering from fibromyalgia (FMS) or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

In a piece posted on About.com's Guide to Fibromyalgia & CFS page, Adrienne Dellwo states there are some thoughtful ideas in a number of categories that could prove ideal for sufferers.

She states that as both FMS and CFS patients feel the cold, traditional gifts such as scarves, slippers and blankets are a good option - adding that being bed or couch-bound means DVDs and puzzle books are also an option.

"It's an added bonus that brain-training games may - according to research - help us keep or regain cognitive abilities," she notes, suggesting music and aromatherapy products as helpful in reducing the stress of the condition.

However, Ms Dellwo warns against some scented products like lotions and body wash, as often sensitivities can mean they could make matters worse.

Exercise products, gift cards and event tickets are also best avoided, she states, as limitations on time and access means that these can often be of no use.

According to UK Fibromyalgia, the disease is the second or third most common diagnosis made by rheumatologists in the UK.
