Tai chi can help to relieve some of the pain associated with arthritis, a new study has revealed.
New findings published in the Arthritis Care and Research journal suggest that a course in martial arts therapy may help to alleviate arthritis-related discomfort.
Lynn Love, director of operations at UK organisation the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, said that gentle exercises are "certainly beneficial" for rheumatoid arthritis patients
"Certainly for people with arthritis, whether they have had joint replacement or not, to be able to stay active is beneficial for their health," she commented.
Ms Love went on to say that, although there is "little" that a person can do to prevent rheumatoid arthritis, smoking should be cut out.
This is because the condition tens to be more aggressive in people who smoke compared to those who do not.
Tai chi theory and practice have evolved in agreement with many of the principles of Chinese philosophy, including Taoism and Confucianism.
