In plaque psoriasis, the treatment options are often based on the severity of symptoms. Severity is ultimately judged by the patient, but from a doctor's perspective, severity is usually determined by four things:
1. The percentage of body surface area affected
2. The location of plaques on the body
3. The appearance of plaques or lesions (thickness, redness and scaling)
4. The degree to which psoriasis restricts the patient's life
Degree of Severity:
Severity |
% Body Surface Area (BSA) |
Mild |
≤2% |
Moderate |
>2% and ≤ 10% |
Severe |
>10% |
NOTE: 1% OF THE BODY = PALM OF YOUR HAND |

Your doctor considers these and other factors when recommending the therapy which is best for you.
